Agnc Investment Corp (AGNC) Profile

AGNC Investment Corp (AGNC.xnas) is an internally-managed mortgage real estate investment trust headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, United States. The AGNC, with 50 employees, invests in agency mortgage-backed securities on a leveraged basis, financed primarily through collateralised borrowings structured as repurchase agreements. The company provides its stockholders with risk-adjusted returns through a combination of monthly dividends and net assets, net of associated borrowing and hedging costs, and net realised gain and losses on its investments and hedging activities. AGNC is listed on the NASDAQ, had a market capitalisation of $8.03B (USD) as of January 2022 and $2.71B (USD) in 2021 yearly revenue. After the disruptions in the financial markets in the first quarter of 2021 as the economy tried to reopen, AGNC was one of the few that quickly recovered the book value it lost during the period. Rising inflation, the Federal Reserve’s tapering, and banks potentially buying more loans with all the excess liquidity they have available will create continued pressure for the Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) market and mortgage-backed security pricing, but AGNC will operate with a more conservative risk profile for 2022.
