It is the second-largest steel producer in the world with a 78.46M metric tonnes annual production. ArcelorMittal SA has 168,000 employees and operates a geographically diversified portfolio of mining operations in Brazil, Bosnia, Canada, Kazakhstan, Liberia, Mexico, and Ukraine. The company’s products include iron ore lump, fines, concentrate pellets, sinter feed, and metallurgical coal. In April 2021, ArcelorMittal lost its majority stake in the Italian subsidiary Ilva S.p.A. due to the infusion of capital by the government of Mario Draghi, which took a 38% share and 50% of the voting rights. The Liberian government and ArcelorMittal signed an amendment to expand the company’s mining and logistics operations in Liberia, one of the largest mining projects in West Africa. Recently, ArcelorMittal SA announced that it had signed a €1.1 billion project with the governments of Belgium and Flanders to build a 2.5 million-tonne direct reduced iron plant in Ghent and two new electric vehicles furnaces. The action is expected to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 3.9M tonnes per year by 2030.
