History US 30

The US30 Index is the 2nd oldest Index in the United States, created in 1896 and calculated the average value of the 12 largest companies in the American industrial sector. The industries included were cotton, sugar and tobacco. The Index was created to serve as a benchmark of sorts, and each stock within its composition was weighted according to price; the higher the price, the larger the weight. Over the years, the Index components changed almost entirely and grew to 30 after changing 51 times since its inception. The most recent addition was Apple in 2015.
